MORE PICTURES

Hello folks,

As I write, I could hear the birds chirping & twittering!

Thank you for your responses. It is wonderful to know that many of you are bird lovers, have birdhouses in your backyard and others planned to build one.

Here are some more pictures of the purple martins. I have to be quick with my camera while Millie shakes them out of their nests (rooms).

Have a great weekend folks!

"Look, the winter is past,
and the rains are over and gone.
The flowers are springing up,
the season of singing birds has come.."
Song of Solomon 2:11-12.

The MARTINS are Back!

In one of our visits to the Amish community last month, we noticed that the birdhouses were down and the "rooms" were being cleaned. I asked when the birds will be coming back and Laura said, "by the end of April."

We came back few days later and the birdhouses are now majestically towering over the green houses & open fields with the beautiful blue skies at the background.

Yes, the martins are back from their journey to the warmer southern region of the country, last winter. This may be a good sign that warmer weather will soon be here--we can start planting our vegetable garden.

According to the older folks, there was a time the birds came too early, only to perish when the weather suddenly turned cold. They fed on insects and when the ground freezes the birds starve to death. Hope they will survive.

"Martins (purple) are the largest of the North American swallows and are popular tenant of backyard birdhouses. In fact, in eastern North America it has nested almost exclusively in nest boxes for more than 100 years," according to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

The weather is absolutely getting better--we can now crack open our windows to let the fresh air in and as a bonus--waking up early in the morning with the chirps & twitters of the birds. It is indeed a d-lite listening to the musical sounds of these beautiful & carefree creatures.

Esther & Linda, our neighbor love feeding them.
